Línguas próximas, culturas longínquas: a tradução de Mayombe, de Pepetela, do português para o espanhol

Abstract

[Resumo] O presente trabalho pretende apresentar um exemplo de interferência ideológica na criação da imagem de uma cultura longínqua como é a angolana através da tradução ao espanhol desde uma língua tão próxima quanto o português. A análise das notas de rodapé colocadas pelos tradutores na versão espanhola revelam uma estratégia tradutora de exotização do texto. Essa mesma estratégia estaria na origem de determinados decalques no texto castelhano que evidenciariam a presença de estereótipos na tradução não verificáveis no original. O objectivo é evidenciar o interesse para a prática tradutora do estudo das traduções literárias entre pares de línguas muito próximos que no entanto veiculam culturas muito mais afastadas.

[Abstract] This study shows an example of ideological interference in the creation of the image of a distant culture, such as the Angolan, through the translation to Castilian Spanish from a language as close as Portuguese. The analysis of the foot-notes inserted by the translators in the Spanish version reveals a translating strategy of making the text appear foreign. This same strategy underlies determined linguistic borrowing in the Spanish text that demonstrates the presence of stereotypes in the translation that are not present in the original. The objective of the study is to underline the relevance to translating practice of the study of literary translations between two languages that are very close, but which, however, convey very distant cultures.
