O Liceo fabrica 'Fadas do lar': actuacións da Mocidade Portuguesa Feminina nun liceo de Lisboa

Abstract

[Resumo] A política educativa salazarista começa a desenhar-se a partir de 1936, substituindo- se o Ministério da Instrução Pública pelo Ministério da Educação Nacional, que assume educar as crianças, as raparigas e as mulheres portuguesas, enquadrando-as nos valores ideológicos do Estado Novo, para o qual a existência da mulher se confundia com a da família. A par dum conjunto de instrumentos legais, de onde se destaca a proibição da coeducação no ensino primário, são criadas duas organizações estatais – a Obra das Mães pela Educação Nacional e a Mocidade Portuguesa Feminina (MPF) –, para assegurar a modelação do caráter das futuras jovens e mulheres portuguesas. Pretendemos mapear atuações da MPF num liceu lisboeta, de frequência estritamente feminina, desde a sua implementação até aos finais dos anos 60 do século passado, período durante o qual a frequência de atividades da MPF oferecidas pela escola passou de obrigatória a facultativa. Explorando, essencialmente, um conjunto de fontes não trabalhadas e processando-se o trabalho hermenêutico no horizonte concetual da História da Educação das Mulheres, a reconstituição daquelas atuações permite- nos afirmar que, apesar de plurais, são concertadas para a produção de boas esposas e mães de família, garantindo-se que no liceu se fabriquem fadas do lar.

[Abstract] The Salazarist education reforms began in 1936 with the substitution of the Ministry of Public Instruction by the Ministry of National Education. One of the tasks of th e new ministry was to educate the country’s girls and women according to the ideological values of the Estado Novo (‘New State’), in which women’s existence was conflated with that of the family. In addition to numerous legislative changes, including the prohibition of co-education at primary level, two new state organisations were created, Obra das Mães pela Educação Nacional (Mothers Working for National Education) and Mocidade Portuguesa Feminina (Female Portuguese Youth), to train and mould girls in the values and ideals of the ‘New State’. The aim of this article is to chart the activities of MPF in a single-sex lyceum in Lisbon, from their introduction until the end of the 1960s, by which time participation in the MPF activities offered by the school was no longer compulsory. The study uses a range of previously unanalysed sources, and the theoretical framework of the History of Female Education. The reconstruction of the different activities coordinated by MPF reveals a concerted strategic effort to train young girls into good wives and mothers and turn the lyceum into a factory of house angels
