Fiestas bautismales y propaganda social en la catedral de Lugo (ss. XVIII-XIX)

Abstract

[Resumen] En este trabajo se abordan diversos aspectos de las ceremonias bautismales en la ciudad de Lugo en los siglos XVII-XIX, en tanto suponían una vía de publicidad social para las familias hidalgas locales. Al igual que otras ceremonias, aunque con un carácter más íntimo, el bautismo de un hijo constituía una ocasión única para mostrar el poder de la familia tanto a nivel económico como social. Por ende, sin olvidar el valor de los efectivos personales, ponemos especial atención a los aspectos contextuales, como la fecha escogida y el lugar de realización.

[Abstract] In this paper we analyze several aspects of baptismal ceremonies in the city of Lugo in the XVIIth-XIXth centuries, as they meant a way for social publicity for local noble families. Just as other ceremonies, although with a more intimate character, the baptism of a child was a fantastic opportunity to show the power of the family both economically and socially. Therefore, without forgetting the value of personal part, we focus on the contextual aspects, such as the chosen date and the place of the ceremony.
