[Abstract] The influence that philosophical and scientific streams of the XVIIrrh century had in Spain was speciaHy outstanding in the work of sOlne personalities engaged with the values of Enlightlnent. Feijoo above aH, and SarIniento are two relevant figures in the develop111ent of critical and encyclopedist spanish thought of that tilne, whose contribution to Social Theory is remarkable particularly because their defense of rationalisln, their support to the scientific criteria and their call1paign against ideologial sectariS111.

[Resumen] La in.fluencia que las corrientes filosóficas y científicas del XVIII tuvieron en España fue especiahnente destacada en la obra de algunas personalidades C0111pro-metidas con la cultura de la Ilustración. Feijoo, sobre todo, y Sar111iento son dos figuras relevantes en la elaboración del pensa111iento crítico y enciclopedista espa-ñol de la época, cuya aportación a la teoría social es notable, particularmente, por su defensa del racionalis111o, su apoyo a los criterios de análisis científico y su call1-paña contra el sectariS1110 ideológico.
