[Abstract] The objective of this paper is to answer a number of questions that will allow us to discover the role of Galicia and the Galician in Cuban politics, during one of the most algid and controversial periods in Cuban history, 1898-1908: How did Cuban politics envision the Galician Center and its dependences, as well as the rest of Galician organizations? What kind of relationship was established between the Galician Center and Cuban politics? How was the feedback between the Galician Center and the insular politics? How was the big mass of Galician emigrants perceived by the politicians in the Island? For a better understanding of the Galician presence in Havana it must be outlined that the majority of the citizens entitled to vote were foreigners, 80% of them Spanish and a high number of them from Galicia. The way in which the Galician Center was spreading its network within the Cuban society is especially evident in the popular habit naming all Spanish people as Galician. Parallel to the black buffoon and the mulata in Cuban comic theater, this habit reflects the popular desire to make fun of those who once ridiculed them, of those who lost the war but who are still there, and even more powerful than during the time of Spanish dominance.
