dc.description.abstract[Abstract] Efficient buildings are no longer a luxury for the population, but a necessity. The large energy costs caused by the construction industry begin from its planning to its end of life, with use and maintenance being the phases that generate the most negative impacts towards sustainable development of today's society. That is: it impacts the environment, health and wellbeing and, of course, the economy. Therefore, studying improvements in current construction standards and, consequently, stimulating energy efficiency in buildings is so important. Under this scenario, this research seeks to contribute to the improvement of the energy evaluation methodology of Brazilian buildings. Developing countries, such as Brazil, with its densified construction park with irregular buildings and poor housing quality, have the privilege of learning from the mistakes and successes of countries like Spain. After researching about the Brazilian energy scenario and the quality of the spaces built in social housing programs, it was studied how viable it was to contribute to the new energy evaluation method under development. Through theoretical and practical comparisons between the evaluation methodologies of both countries fore-mentioned, it was possible to achieve worthy considerations to improve the proposal under development, verifying significant changes from the current Brazilian methodology and how these may impact the Brazilian building park, as well as which are the methods limitations and the contributions the Spanish methodology could add. In the end, all the discussions presented here will be a means to stimulate and contribute to future research regarding energy evaluation and the reflection of its application in social housing in Brazil.es_ES
