Abstract

[Resumen] En 1902 Arthur Vierendeel publicaba su libro “La construction architecturale en fonte, fer et acier” en el que describía gráficamente la anatomía constructiva de los que él consideró los edificios más significativos de la primera etapa de la arquitectura del hierro. El presente artículo pretende poner en valor los aspectos más relevantes de esta obra poco conocida y, sin embargo, de un alto valor historiográfico. Asimismo, pretende resaltar y focalizar en los dibujos de Vierendeel su espíritu conciliador en la dicotomía arquitecto-ingeniero propia del S. XIX.

[Abstract] Arthur Vierendeel published his book “La construction architecturale en fonte, fer et acier” in 1902, in which he graphically described the constructive anatomy of what he considered to be the most significant buildings from the first stage of iron architecture. The aim of this article is to highlight the most relevant aspects of this little-known work which, nevertheless, has great historiographic value. In addition, the article attempts to approach Vierendeel’s drawings by emphasising and focussing on his conciliatory attitude towards the architect-engineer dichotomy that typified the 19th century.
