El sistema gallec de caixes d'estalvi en perspectiva històrica, Segles XIX-XX

Abstract

[Resum] Des de la seva creació les caixes d'estalvi van estar molt lligades a l'entorn local i regional. De fet, la seva expansió extrarregional ha estat un fenomen recento El sistema gallee de caixes va adquirir característiques propíes com a conseqüencía del seu precoc desenvolupament, dins un context d'endarreriment economíc i manca d'urbanització. Una primera conclusió és que, historicament, Galícia es troba més a prop de lamitjana espanyola des d'un punt de vista de I'estalvi, que no pas del creixement. Les trameses d'emigrants van tenir un paper clau dins d'aquesta caracterització de Galícia com a placa de passiu. En els anys d'entreguerres, es van produir transforrnacions importants al sistema financer gallee. Les caixes van contribuir a I'establiment d'un regim d'assegurances socials oblígatoríes, mitjancant la Caixa Gallega de Previsió Social. L'impacte envers el sector famílies va ésser notable. La seva importancia actual és el resultat d'un llarg procés que, malgrat . I'intervencionisme franquista, ha permes a aquestes institucions aconseguir la maduresa orgánica definitiva. La desregularització del sistema financer, a I'últim quart del segle xx, va afavorir a Galícia la concentració d'entitats i l'expansió extrarregional.

[Abstract] Right from their inception savings banks were closely linked to their regional environment and their expansion nationwíde has been a relatively recent phenomenon, The Galician network of savings banks acquired its own particular set of peculiarities because of its relatively early evolution in a context of economic backwardness and negligible urban development. One might condude that, historically speaking, Galicia was at this time doser to the Spanish average in terms of savings deposits than with respect too economic growth. Emigrants' remittances played a key role in this. The inter-war period was witness to important changes in the Galician ,financial system,. when savings banks contributed to the creation of a system of mandatory social security in the shape of the -Caja Gallega de Previsión Socíal-, 'In institution which had a considerable impact on the family sector. Their current importance is the result of a long process which, in spite of state interference during Franco's dictatorship, has led these institutions to organic maturity. The deregulation of the financial sector in the last quarter of the twentieth century favoured concentration and nationwide expansion for at least sorne of the banks.
