Resumo
[Abstract]: The use of Information Technologies and Communication Technologies (ICTs) offers new alternatives to traditional relationships between architectural design and material production processes due to the possibility of generating information for construction directly from design information.
The application of these digital techniques, coupled with the development of new materials and manufacturing techniques and management, gives rise to a need to reconfigure the mental processes involved promoting a radical and comprehensive way of designing and building. The so called "digital revolution" has transformed in great measure the construction sector and presents a review of the relationships between the different agents through an integration of strategies and interdisciplinary applications.
This paper presents a reflection on the new territories of formal exploration that the use of digital models and generative parametric design opens and which transform the relationship between design and representation, through the definition of complex geometries based on emerging and adaptive form properties.
This digital convergence of representation and production phases poses a profound transformation of the building process due to the fact that the complexity of the forms designed requires greater involvement in the realization of these and the need for more precise control of execution by use of CAD/CAM technology, CNC systems and rapid prototyping techniques that are radically changing design and manufacturing schemes while blurring the boundaries between architecture and engineering.
