El abuso de poder en La Estrella de Sevilla

Abstract

[Resumen] El presente artículo encabeza una serie de tres trabajos que tienen como fondo común el tema del abuso de poder. En cada uno de ellos se trata el tema de manera sincrónica, particularizando en una obra teatral concreta. Este primer artículo se centra en la tragedia barroca La Estrella de Sevilla, de autoría discutida por algunos investigadores. Estudiamos cómo afecta el abuso de poder a los diferentes protagonistas de la obra. En los dos siguientes, además, se analiza el tema diacrónica y comparativamente en distintas obras de la Historia de la Literatura, hasta llegar al siglo XIX, para concluir conectándolo con una ópera del compositor irlandés Michael William Balfe.

[Abstract] This paper heads a series of three essays that share the topic of power abuse. In each and every one of them the theme is developed in a synchronic way, focusing on a specific theatre play. In this first essay we write on the Baroque tragedy La Estrella de Sevilla, whose authorship is discussed by some scholars. We deal with power abuse and how it influences the different protagonists of the play. In the next two ones, in addition, we analyse the topic in a diachronic and comparative way in different plays from the History of Literature, up to the 19th century, ending with a connection to an opera by the Irish composer Michael William Balfe.
