Abstract
[Resumen] Este artículo estudia la influencia del nivel
de participación en programas extraescolares
(alta, baja y ninguna participación) en las percepciones
sobre el tiempo libre, rendimiento
académico y habilidad deportiva de los escolares.
El estudio forma parte de un proyecto
de investigación más amplio sobre actividades
extraescolares y educación del ocio de la
infancia. La muestra está formada por 293
alumnos (148 niños y 143 niñas) de colegios
públicos de la ciudad de A Coruña, con edades
comprendidas entre los 8 y los 13 años
(media=9,86; desviación típica=1,24) y con
características similares en cuanto género,
curso académico y colegio. La muestra se
dividió en 3 subgrupos, en función de su nivel
de participación en actividades extraescolares:
grupo de alta participación, de baja participación
y sin participación. Se utilizó un
cuestionario formado por preguntas cerradas
y una escala de valoración tipo Likert de 4
puntos sobre aspectos relacionados con el
tiempo libre, el rendimiento académico y la
habilidad deportiva de los escolares. Se
emplearon pruebas estadísticas como Chicuadrado,
Mann-Whitney y Kruskal-Wallis
para evaluar la significación de los datos. Los
resultados indican que el nivel de participación
en los programas extraescolares influye
en los aspectos antes mencionados y que existe
un porcentaje importante de no participantes
(52,2%) que afirman que si pudieran elegir,
irían a este tipo de actividades.
[Abstract] This article studies the influence of participation level in out of school programs on free time, academic performance and sport skill schoolchildren perceptions. The study is a part of a broader research proj ect about out of school activities and childhood leisure education. The sample is made up of 293 students (148 little boys and 143 little girls) of A Coruña public schools, ages 8 to 13 years (average= 9,86; standard deviation= 1,24) with similar features for genre, academic course and school. The sample was separate into three groups, by participation level in out of school activities: high, low and no participation. A questionnaire formed by closed questions and a four points Likert scale was used, about aspects relative to free time, academic performance and sport skill of schoolchildren. Statistical tests such as Chi-square, Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis were used to assess the significance of the data. Results indicate participation level in out of school programs affect to schoolchildren perceptions about the aspects before mentioned and there is a important percentage of non-participants (52,20/0) who say that if they could choose, they would go to these kind of activities
