Los tejidos en las cantigas gallego-portuguesas: nuevas lecturas

Abstract

[Resumen] Las cantigas gallego-portuguesas son un testimonio fundamental para el conocimiento de los tejidos medievales que se utilizaban en la vestimenta del hombre y la mujer en el siglo XIII y primera mitad del XIV. Aquí se traza un recorrido por los textos donde aparecen mencionados, atendiendo al valor simbólico y referencial que les otorgan los trovadores. Se tiene en cuenta asimismo el valor documental e histórico que ofrecen estas piezas líricas en cuanto a la antigüedad de los tejidos mencionados y a las prendas que se confeccionaban con ellos, y se ofrecen nuevas lecturas de ciertos términos que podrían aludir a tejidos poco documentados en todo el periodo medieval peninsular y que parecen estar mal copiados en los manuscritos. Asimismo, se ofrece un estudio pormenorizado de la cantiga «En este son de negrada», que forma parte del extenso ciclo que dedicó el trovador Lopo Lias a escarnecer a unos caballeros de Lemos con el pretexto de que siempre iban mal vestidos. Es la pieza más singular del ciclo, tanto por su forma estrófica como por su construcción retórica, pero sobre todo presenta un término que no ha podido ser documentado hasta la fecha y que estaría relacionado con un tipo de tejido: «soçeri». Atendiendo al contexto en que se cita, se infiere que podríamos estar ante una mala lectura de los códices, tras la cual se esconde un tejido de origen persa, que aparece documentado en la época con infinidad de variantes léxicas, y que ha sido recogido por Gual Camarena y Corriente bajo la forma «Doxtoni».

[Abstract] The Galician-Portuguese cantigas are an important source of knowledge of the medieval fabrics used for men’s and women’s clothing in the 13th century and the first half of the 14th century. This article surveys texts where such fabrics are mentioned and takes into account the symbolic and referential value that the troubadours give the fabrics. These lyric poems have documentary and historical value regarding the age of the mentioned fabrics and the garments that were made from them. Moreover, certain terms that could refer to little-documented fabrics, terms that seem badly copied in the manuscripts, are given new readings. Thus, we offer a more detailed study of the cantiga «En este son de negrada», which is part of the extensive song cycle in which the Galician troubadour Lopo Lias mocks certain knights of Lemos under the pretext that tehey were always badly dressed. The cantiga is the most unique of the cycle, both for its stanza form and its rhetorical construction. It is of special interest here because it presents a term that has not been documented to date: «soçeri». The term seems to refer to a type of fabric. Given the context in which the term is used, it can be inferred that the term might constitute a misreading of the medieval codices, and it refers to a silk fabric of Persian manufacture, which appears documented at the time with a large number of lexical variants, which have been collected by Gual Camarena and Corriente under the headword «Doxtoni».
