[Abstract] Tradicionalmente se han utilizado las variables aptitudinales como predictores del rendimiento escolar. Sin embargo, los resultados de múltiples investigaciones muestran que la
c2pacidad predictiva de tales variables es escasa, además de que va disminuyendo a medida
que se avanza en la pirámide de los niveles educativos. En este trabajo aplicamos las pruebas
de capacidades de la fase V del Sistema de Asesoramiento Vocacional Renovado: SAV-R
(Rivas, Rocabert y López, 1998) a 568 estudiantes de secundaria. Los diversos análisis de
regresión realizados apuntaron, de nuevo, el escaso poder predictivo de las capacidades
respecto al rendimiento escolar, resultados que permiten desterrar prejuicios e ideas irracionales
muy extendidas sobre la relación entre inteligencia y el rendimiento académico

Nevertheless, results from severa1 researches show the predictive capacity of these variables is scarce and even decreases according to the changes to higher educative levels. In the present study we applied the abilities tests at phase V from the Renewed Vocational Assessment System: SAV-R (Rivas, Rocabert y López, 1998) to 568 high school students. Several regression analyses show the scarce predictive power of the capacities at school achievement. These results let us eliminate very extended prejudices and irrational ideas reagrding the relation between intelligence and academic achievement
