Abstract
[Abstract] The late-medieval compound demonstratives estoutro, esoutro and aqueloutro continue to be used in the Galician-Portuguese linguistic system nowadays. Nevertheless, while these demonstratives are still pronouns expressing the idea of contrast in the Galician territories, they are usually perceived as dialecticisms or populisms in present-day Portuguese. Therefore, taking into account the basic principle that any linguistic phenomenon in Galician has a correspondent in Portuguese and vice versa, it is our aim to reflect in the uses of those pronouns, common to both sides of the Miño but different regarding their status in both standards.
