Cuerpo, género y enfermedad en la narrativa autobiográfica de Carlota O’Neill

Abstract

[Resumen] El cuerpo femenino enfermo se encuentra atravesado por símbolos que condicionan su experiencia. Éste es considerado inferior y ajeno a la norma, por lo que la realidad social que las mujeres enfermas experimentan difiere de la del resto. Resulta de interés, por consiguiente, estudiar las vivencias de estos sujetos, cuyo género y cuya condición de enfermas las convierte en algo doblemente subalterno. Para ello, la obra autobiográfica de Carlota O’Neill, Una mujer en la guerra de España (2003), adquiere gran relevancia, ya que permite conocer cómo fue la experiencia de una mujer republicana enferma durante la Guerra Civil española.

[Abstract] The sick female body is permeated by symbols that determine its experience. It is considered inferior and alien to the norm, so the social reality experienced by sick women differs from others. Therefore, it is of interest to study the experiences of these individuals, whose gender and condition as sick people make them doubly subaltern. To this end, Carlota O’Neill’s autobiographical work, Una mujer en la guerra de España (2003), is highly relevant as it provides insight into the experience of a sick Republican woman during the Spanish Civil War.
