(Des)memoria cultural e ficción literaria: o caso da narrativa galega actual sobre o franquismo

Abstract

[Abstract] In the context of the revival of the past in the Spanish public sphere, memories of the Civil War and the Franco regime have become one of the main topics in the narratives written in the Iberian Peninsula, especially in the Spanish, Galician, Basque and Catalan literatures. This paper explores Francoism in new novels written in Galicia since 2000 in relation to the movement to recover historical memory, showing a significant evolution in both the ways the dictatorship is represented and the narrative strategies used. The role of these texts as media constructing Galician cultural memory depends not only on their content but also on their form, with both aspects strongly influenced by the context in which these narratives are produced. The study of the relation between these three elements will allow us to distinguish two different narrative modes with their respective functions in the current Galician memory novel.
