Abstract
[Abstract] Ships’ crews, in addition to carrying out their professional functions on board, have to live together sharing hours of rest and leisure, physically isolated from the outside world and separated from their families and friends. The specific working conditions that exist in this sector have led to consider that these working conditions can generate situations of stress and fatigue that are different from those experienced by workers in other sectors. Being stress and fatigue risk factors for the health and safety of maritime transport workers, it is analyzed how and to what extent these factors have been taken into account in regulations in order to protect these workers from their consequences. It is concluded that international, European and national regulations do not deal effi ciently with these problems.
