Abstract
[Abstract] The MARPOL Convention and specifically its Annex VI establishes the maximum sulphur content in fuel oils used on board. Certain ships use fuel that does not comply with the aforementioned limitations, but the administration allows them to install cleaning systems for the exhaust gases generated. Among them, open cycle systems are characterized by discharging wastewater generated during the exhaust gas desulfurization process to the outside. Said waste gas washing water is usually characterized by having a high acidity. This article deals with the analysis of the evolution of the acidity level (pH) of the waters of the South basin of the port of Barcelona.
