Abstract
[Abstract]: This text analyzes the disruptive impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in newsrooms from both a sociological and economic perspective. Unlike the emergence of the World Wide Web, the current media industry has reacted by seeking compensation agreements with tech giants. The text proposes a foreseeable research framework that examines not only the daily influence of AI but also how this technology alters the socioeconomic background of journalists and diversity within newsrooms. Preliminary findings on media discourse in Spain are presented, showing a predominant focus on generative AI and content production over analytical AI or distribution. Finally, the authors reflect on the relationship between job precariousness, unequal access to information, and democratic health, suggesting that the survival of quality journalism depends on its ability to address these social challenges.
