Abstract
[Abstract] During the last decades a growing interest has been addressed to sleep quality patterns in infancy, especially during the period that children initiate their school trajectory. The aim of this article was to identify which associations exist between sleep problems (prevalence and progress during school year), school achievements and school-aged children’s morningness-eveningness preferences. A total of 364 elementary school children from Braga, 184 (50.5%) boys and 180 (49.5%) girls, aged between 7 and 11 years (M= 8.12; SD =.939) were assessed in two moments. The study showed that 13% of the children had clinical significant sleep problems which influenced school achievements and were associated with behavioural problems. Regarding the preferences for morningnesseveningness most children prefered the morning period both in the 1st evaluation (41.2%) as for the 2nd evalution (36.5%). The results will be discussed in terms of the importance of this study for research and clinical practice
