Abstract
[Abstract] In this investigation we have addressed the link between learning orientation and performance orientation, in its approach and avoidance trends, and academic stress, considering both the academic stressors, and stress response such as coping strategies. The sample comprised a total of 258 students, 228 women and 30 men, aged between 18 and 45 years and average age of 21 years. The results of this study show that there are differences in the relationships between goal orientations and stressors perception, stress response and coping strategies. Specifically, it was found a positive relationship between performance-avoidance goals and the perception of stressors and physical and psychological malaise. Moreover, our results suggest that concern not to give an image of incompetence in front of others can reduce the use of active coping strategies to handle problem situations.
