Abstract
[Abstract]: This paper presents the design of a methodological tool for analyzing media coverage of artificial intelligence (AI) as applied to journalistic production and news consumption in Spanish digital media. The study proposes a quantitative, descriptive, and explanatory content analysis with a longitudinal approach encompassing three key stages in AI development: pre-boom (2022), expansion (2023), and implementation (2024). The research focuses on ten leading Spanish digital news outlets and employs a stratified sample obtained through specialized searches in MyNews. The analytical instrument operationalizes variables related to the definition of AI, its connection to the normative functions of journalism, the challenges it poses for the media industry, professionals, and audiences, as well as the benefits and risks associated with its use. The resulting codebook enables a comparative assessment of media frames surrounding AI and of the journalistic factors that shape its public representation.
