Abstract
[Abstract] he distinction between form classes and the functions they play in the syntactic level has been studied by different grammatical theories (functionalist or formalist), although from divergent postulates. However, this essential dichotomy has received little attention in morphology, so it is usual that the two approaches get mixed up. Therefore, in this paper I will show that this distinction must also be transferred to the field of morphology. At the same time, I will present some samples of how the use of this twofold perspective allows us to treat some issues under discussion in the morphological analysis (e.g., interfixes or the distinction lexeme/root) in a satisfactory way.
