La extrañeza que suscitó en lectores y editores de la obra ha producido dudas acerca de su existencia real en la lengua y, como consecuencia de ello, una larga e interesante serie de propuestas de sustitución. Al tiempo, lercha está ampliamente documentada en gallego, pero con un sentido muy diferente del que parece corresponderle en español. El presente trabajo pretende ilustrar la historia lexicográfica de esta palabra tanto en español como en gallego y contribuir al mejor conocimiento del texto cervantino.[Abstract] The presence of the word lercha in Spanish dictionaries has been based almost exclusively on its inclusion in Don Quixote. The strangeness that it aroused in readers and editors of this work has raised doubts about its real existence in the language and, as a result, a long and interesting series of substitution proposals. Moreover, lercha has also been widely documented in Galician, but with a very different meaning from the one that seems to have in Spanish.
