Em todo o seu texto e particularmente na Introdução podem-se encontrar observações de interesse sobre temas centrais da teorização lingüística da época: a necessidade de uma gramática científica elaborada a partir de princípios rigorosos, as conexões das regras da linguagem com as regras lógicas, a divisão e conteúdo das partes da gramática e a urgência da reforma do ensino gramatical.[Abstract] Jerónimo Soares Barbosa´s A Philosophical Grammar of Portuguese is a key work in the studies of Portuguese grammar.
