The objective of this study was to evaluate the moderating role of autonomous motivation in the relationship between the perception of the task-oriented climate promoted by the coach and the future intention to continue practicing among Paralympic athletes. A total of 183 Mexican Paralympians (M age = 21.2, SD = 5.40) from 9 different sports participated, completing an electronic version of a battery of psychological instruments for the different study variables adapted to the Paralympic context: the Empowering and Disempowering Motivational Climate Questionnaire created by the coach (EDMCQ-C), the Sport Motivation Scale (SMS-II), and the Future Desires to Practice Scale (INT-PAPA). The results of the moderated regression model with PROCESS indicated that autonomous motivation moderates the relationship between task climate and future intention to continue (B = 0.24, p < 0.001). Specifically, for high levels of autonomous motivation (values equal to or greater than 5.76, 71.03% of the sample), the relationship between task climate and future intention to continue practicing was positive and significant; while for low levels of autonomous motivation (values equal to or less than 3.80, 19.67% of the sample), the relationship between task climate and future intention to continue practicing was negative and significant. In conclusion, it is important to foster autonomous motivation to promote a positive relationship between the perception of the task-oriented climate created by the coach and the future intention to continue practicing among Paralympic athletes.spaAttribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0Ambiente climáticoEntrenamiento deportivoEntrenadoresClimatic environmentSports trainingCoachesClima tarea e intención futura de continuar la práctica en deportistas paralímpicos: rol moderador de la motivación autónomaClimate Task and Future Intention to Continue the Practice in Paralympic Athletes: Moderating Role of Autonomous Motivationjournal articleopen access2026-09-2210.17979/sportis.2025.11.2.11203
