Actuación de la intendencia borbónica en la esfera municipal a partir de 1720: El caso coruñés

Abstract

[Resumen] El objetivo de este trabajo es conocer las relaciones mantenidas entre el concejo coruñés y el intendente, diez años después de su inicial implantación en Galicia. Se trata, por lo tanto, de un estudio de lo que podríamos denominar la fase de consolidación de esta institución en Galicia. En el mismo, se examina la evolución competencial que sufre el oficial borbónico en el ámbito municipal, clarificando si hay cambios o, por el contrario, se continúa con la misma actividad desarrollada durante los primeros años de instalación del oficio. El marco espacial y temporal de análisis también responden a dos claros objetivos. En A Coruña tenía su sede el intendente y en ella asumirá, también, el corregimiento. Además, convivirá con otras instituciones de representación de la monarquía española, el capitán general y la real audiencia. Temporalmente, se analiza el periodo que coincide con el ejercicio del oficio por parte de Rodrigo Caballero, intendente que, con su fuerte personalidad, se implicará activamente a la hora de solucionar los problemas del municipio.

[Abstract] The objective of this work is to learn about the relationship between the council of A Coruña and the “Intendente”, ten years after its initial implementation in Galicia. It is, therefore, a study of, what we could call, the consolidation phase of this institution in Galicia. In it, the evolution of the competences of the Bourbon official in the municipal sphere is examined, clarifying if there are changes or, otherwise, the same activity developed during the first years of the introduction of this official is continued. The spatial and temporal framework of analysis also responds to two clear objectives. The “Intendente” had his headquarters in A Coruña and he will also assume the “Corregimiento” there. In addition, it will coexist with other representative institutions of the Spanish monarchy, the Captain- General and the royal Audience. Temporally, this work studies the period that coincides with the exercise of the office by Rodrigo Caballero, “intendente” who, with his strong personality, will be actively involved in solving the problems of the municipality.
