Abstract
[Abstract] A passage of Jorge Manrique’s Coplas, alternates the reading «preserved senses» with «forgotten senses» of which I elected to us the second, as the term «senses» could be understood as «cravings, passions» according to the Diccionario de Autoridades. In response to an article by J. C. Conde which questioned this reading of «senses» and, by extension, my choice of the variant in the edition, an examination of the use of the term «senses» in Latin and Romance philosophical and theological texts, and of the formulations that the term received in Castilian treatises, reveals that all support the chosen interpretation of the term and, as a result, the variant used in my critical edition
