Abstract
[Abstract] The geometric modeling of buildings covering wide rural areas poses an important challenge with application in multiple domains. Video games are famous examples where procedural modeling is widely adopted to populate virtual worlds. Followed also by urban planning and simulation, where building lands can be built up to present more accurate and realistic simulations. Procedural modeling is a well-known approach in computer science to generate on-demand content. In particular, procedural geometric modeling tackles the problem of creating complex 3-D models with minimal human intervention or completely autonomously. In this project, we propose to tackle the procedural modeling of the external geometric shape of houses and small industrial buildings that is generated from a given rural map divided into plots. The proposed system, built on top of Houdini, will automatically decide which plots can be utilized to build up a variety of houses and buildings with different floor shapes. We illustrate the designed system with real-world maps from existing GIS databases.
