Martín Sarmiento y las bibliotecas de la Congregación benedictina de Valladolid

Abstract

Se analizan las bibliotecas de la Congregación de San Benito de Valladolid en el siglo XVIII partiendo de la reglamentación introducida en sus Constituciones y de las noticias aportadas por Martín Sarmiento, así como la propuesta de éste para constituir una biblioteca dirigida a los novicios, que había de contribuir a su formación para establecer los estudios y reforzar la identidad de la orden en los monasterios españoles, inspirándose en los logros de la Congregación francesa de Saint-Maur.This work analyzes the libraries of the Saint Benedict Congregation of Valladolid in the 18th century. The study is based on the rules that were introduced in their Constitutions, as well as the news that was provided by Martín Sarmiento. It also contemplates the proposal he made, inspired by the achievements of the French Saint-Maur Congregation, to build a library geared towards novices that was to contribute to their training by structuring their studies and strengthening the identity of the order in the Spanish monasteries.
