¿Víctimas o verdugos? La memoria de la Guerra Civil Española en imágenes

Abstract

[Resumen]: Desde los primeros tiempos de la dictadura, la guerra civil se insertaba en una visión providencialista de la historia, donde los límites con la Historia Sagrada se desdibujaban: se equiparaban “víctimas y verdugos” de nuestra guerra civil, la Revolución Francesa, el Imperio Romano. Las imágenes constituyeron un medio fundamental para realizar esa relectura de la historia. Intentaré aplicar ese método iconográfico, que ya fue utilizado por especialistas como Peter Burke o Carlo Ginzburg, a dos ejemplos: las ilustraciones que acompañaron la Historia de la Cruzada Española de Arrarás; y un recorrido por la “Sala de la Guerra Civil” del Museo del Ejército de Madrid.

[Abstract]: From the very early days of the Dictatorship, the civil war was inserted into a providential view of history, where the limits with the sacred story were blurred. "Victims and executioners" from the Spanish Civil War, the French Revolution, or the Roman Empire were matched. Manipulation of icons constituted a significant means in order to reread history. I will try to apply the iconographic method, which was already used by historians such as Peter Burke or Carlo Ginzburg, to two examples: the illustrations that accompanied the History of the Spanish Crusade of Arrarás; and a tour of the "Hall of Civil War.at the ancient Army Museum of Madrid.
