Abstract

[Abstract] The civil effects of religious marriages in the States belonging to the European Union vary widely from one country to another. There is no clear and logical map of marriage systems, as there might have been in the past. The evolving legislation on marriage, and the incorporation of new countries to the European Union, mainly those from the East, shaped a new map, that is not as well defined nowadays.
