Abstract
[Abstract] This paper offers a critical review regarding the presence and consideration of ‘extranjerismos crudos’ (rough foreigisms) in the 23rd edition of DRAE (2014); namely, those words that do not follow the spelling and phonetic rules of the Spanish language and appear, for that reason, as lemmas in italics in the academic dictionary. The previous edition of DRAE and the preview for the 23rd edition are compared, when possible, with the aim to observe the criteria employed and determine if said criteria has been applied in a proper and consistent manner.
