Abstract

[Resumo] Neste artigo lévase a cabo un breve percorrido pola evolución histórica dos con- ceptos de educación e de cidadanía e reprodúcense, tradúcense e coméntanse dous tex- tos de Rousseau e Condorcet. A propósito do significado contemporáneo deses dous con- ceptos e do nacemento do que hoxe entendemos por educación para a cidadanía, faise un seguimento do discurso deses pensadores ilustrados franceses do século XVIII sobre o que eles denominaban a instruction civique (educación cívica).
[Abstract] This article offers an overview of the historic evolution of the concepts of edu- cation and citizens and includes texts by Rousseau and Condorcet as well as translations and commentaries on these texts. As regards the contemporary significance of these two concepts and the birth of what today is known as the education of citizens there is also an examination of the discourse of these two great 18th century French thinkers regarding their thoughts on what they termed instruction civique (civic education).
