El difícil equilibrio entre trabajo y vida: arreglos para el cuidado de tres generaciones de migrantes caboverdianas

Abstract

[Resumen] La conciliación de las esferas personal, laboral y familiar de las personas migrantes es un tema emergente en los estudios migratorios de mano de conceptos como el de familia transnacional o las cadenas globales de cuidados. En esta contribución analizamos las estrategias que despliegan varias generaciones de mujeres migrantes caboverdianas residentes en Galicia para hacer frente a sus empleos y a los trabajos domésticos y de cuidados de sus hogares. Se hace una especial consideración al papel que juegan el ciclo migratorio, los nichos laborales y la familia extensa en el tipo de estrategias de conciliación resultante. Esta investigación se sustenta sobre una etnografía multisituada con familias migrantes caboverdianas entre la isla de Santiago en Cabo Verde y la localidad gallega de Burela.

[Abstract] The difficult balance between work and life: care arrangements in three generations of Cape Verdean migrants. The reconciliation of the personal, work and family spheres of migrants is an emerging issue in migration studies, with concepts such as the transnational family and global care chains. In this contribution we analyse the strategies deployed by several generations of Cape Verdean migrant women living in Galicia to cope with their jobs and the domestic and care work in their households. Special consideration is given to the role played by the migratory cycle, labour niches and the extended family in the type of work-life balance strategies that result. This research is based on a multi-situated ethnography with Cape Verdean migrant families between the island of Santiago in Cape Verde and the Galician town of Burela.
