Bands of Activist Poetry: Visual Kindness cards Based on Children’s Rights Thinking

Abstract

[Abstract] This article reports on a plurilingual arts-based pedagogy project entitled Bands of Activist Poetry, carried out by primary school students (N = 100) in collaboration with contemporary artists. Designed as an artivist action, the pedagogy focuses on the defence of human rights and the rights of children. The project is based on the ethical and aesthetical principles of the Bands of Mercy movement, founded in 1875, and on poetic expression in Galician, a historically oppressed language. The aim of the research is to increase social impact and engagement for the promotion of people power and cultural uniqueness.

[Resumen] Este artículo presenta un proyecto plurilingüe de pedagogía basada en las artes titulado Bands of Activist Poetry, llevado a cabo con alumnado de educación primaria (N = 100) en colaboración con artistas contemporáneos. Planteado como una acción artivista, el proyecto pedagógico se centra en la defensa de los derechos humanos y de la infancia. Se fundamenta en los principios éticos y estéticos del movimiento Bands of Mercy, fundado en 1875, y en la expresión poética en gallego, lengua históricamente oprimida. El objetivo de la investigación es aumentar el impacto social y participativo, para empoderar a las personas y defender sus singularidades culturales.
