Abstract
[Resumo] Este artigo ven sendo unha defensa da educación pública republicana a partir dun breve percorrido histórico que arranca da Revolución Francesa de 1789 e das súas orixes históricas (movemento da Ilustración) e teóricas ( Platón e Aristóteles). O nacemento da escola gratuita, obrigatoria e laica no século XIX en Europa e o proceso histórico-sociolóxico de construcción da escola única republicana en España, entre 1931 e 1936, completan o traballo.
[Abstract] This article is fundamentally a defence of public education during the Republic and includes a brief history starting out from the French Revolution of 1789 and its origins - both historical (the Enlightenment) and theoretical (Plato and Aristotle). Other subjects that are discussed here include the birth of free, compulsory, lay education in 19th Century Europe and the historic and sociological process of the construction of the unique Republican school in Spain between 1931 and 1936.
