Empresas cooperativas y síndrome Nimby: el caso de Engasa, 1981-2008

Abstract

[Resumen] La crisis energética de los años setenta impuisó las energías renovables. Galicia se hallaba bien dotada para ellas, en especial para la hidráulica y la eólica. Ese contexto favorable fue aprovechado por algunas empresas como Engasa. Esta compañía tiene unos rasgos peculiares derivados de su carácter cooperativo y mixto. Su evolución ha estado marcada por la lentitud en la puesta en marcha de sus minicentrales hidráulicas, causada por la oposición vecinal y ecologista. El trabajo se centra en tratar de responder, mediante un análisis de caso, a dos preguntas claves: ¿por qué existen empresas cooperativas? ¿qué estrategias empresariales pueden hacer frente al problema Nimby?

[Abstract] The energy crisis of the 1970s impelled the renewable energies. Galicia was well equipped for them, mainly for wind and hydraulic power. Sorne companies like Engasa took advantage of that favourable context. This firm has peculiar characteristics derived frorn its cooperative and mixed character. Its evolution has been conditional by slowness in the beginning of its hydraulic minipower stations, which was caused by the neighbourhood and ecologist opposition. The article aims to answer through a case study, two key questions: why are there cooperative ventures? What business strategies to confront the Nimby problem?
