Abstract

[Abstract] Although there are several studies regarding textile fibre release, there is little information about how thermal and mechanical properties of textiles can influence the process. In this study, TG, DSC and thermal and dynamic mechanical analysis are used to characterize the textiles. As the variables involved in textile fibre release are numerous and with different origins, statistical techniques of multivariate analysis are useful to reduce the dimensions of the problem, allowing the visualization of all variables together, considering their relationships. It also provides a statistical support to the study of fibre release, through which we found that the most strongly related parameters to fibre release are the nature of the fibres, the type of filament, continuous or staple, the elastic modulus and the crystallinity. Overall, this study provides a new understanding on how the thermal and mechanical properties of fabrics influence fibre shedding.
