Abstract
[Resumen] Introducción: la terapia ocupacional es una disciplina en constante evolución que busca mejorar la calidad de vida a través de la promoción de la autonomía y la participación. El Primer Congreso Internacional del Consejo General de Colegios Profesionales de Terapia Ocupacional (CGCTO) en Madrid reunió a expertos para fortalecer la profesión y compartir avances.
Método: se realizó un estudio cualitativo basado en análisis narrativo para comprender las experiencias y discursos durante el congreso, mediante la revisión de conferencias, mesas redondas y comunicaciones científicas.
Conclusión: el congreso consolidó la incorporación del término “prescripción ocupacional” en el Plan Nacional de Salud Mental, marcando un reconocimiento institucional clave. Además, impulsó alianzas internacionales y destacó la importancia de la formación especializada. Este evento representa un avance significativo para la visibilidad y desarrollo de la terapia ocupacional en España y la península Ibérica.
[Abstract] Introduction: Occupational therapy is a constantly evolving discipline aimed at improving quality of life by promoting autonomy and participation. The First International Congress of the General Council of Professional Occupational Therapy Colleges (CGCTO) in Madrid gathered experts to strengthen the profession and share advancements. Method: A qualitative study based on narrative analysis was conducted to understand experiences and discourses during the congress through reviewing conferences, roundtables, and scientific presentations. Conclusion: The congress consolidated the inclusion of the term “occupational prescription” in the National Mental Health Plan, marking a key institutional recognition. It also fostered international alliances and emphasized the importance of specialized training. This event represents a significant milestone for the visibility and development of occupational therapy in Spain and the Iberian Peninsula.
