Abstract
[Resumen] Entre las fuentes clásicas del soneto XIV de Garcilaso, debe tenerse en cuenta la Institución retórica de Quintiliano, donde recogió la imagen de Lucrecio sobre los médicos que ocultan a los niños el sabor amargo de la medicina con miel. Mezclando la gravedad con la dulzura, dicho soneto se convierte en un ejercicio de imitación compuesta en el que la aplicación didáctica y moral de la retórica de los afectos se pone al servicio de la invención poética. Gracias a ello, el poema consigue alcanzar lo admirable por medio de sutiles y sencillos medios expresivos.
[Abstract] Among the classical sources of Garcilaso´s XIV sonnet, we have to consider Quintiliano´s Institutio Rhetorica, in which Lucrecio´s image of the doctors who trick the children giving them honey to hide the bitter taste of medicine is found. Mixing seriousness with sweetness, this sonnet is an exercise of composite imitation, in which the didactic and moral application of the rhetoric of affection is placed at the service of poetical invention. Thanks to this and the use of subtle and simple expressive means, the poem reaches the admirable.
