[Resumen] En este estudio realizado en la comunidad autónoma gallega sobre una muestra de 815 pacientes mayores de 65 años se evalúa el conocimiento de la figura del podólogo, importancia de los pies para el paciente y hábitos higiénicos más comunes. De la población de estudio un 54,2% no conocía la figura del podólogo y sólo un 35,5% lo destaca como profesional de referencia para problemas en los pies. Un 61,2% alegaba problemas económicos para acudir al podólogo aun presentando dificultades para cuidar sus uñas y patologías dérmicas. Entre estas dificultades destacan la falta de movilidad en un 67,4% y el grosor de las uñas en un 20%.
[Abstract] In this study taken in the region of Galicia on a sample of 815 patients 65 and older, awareness of the podiatrist role, the importance of the feet for the patient and the most common hygienic habits are evaluated. 54,2% of the people did not know the figure of the podiatrist and only 35,5 % emphasizes it as professional of reference to problems in feet. 61,2% cited economic problems to come to the podiatrist even presenting difficulties to take care of their nails and dermal pathologies. Lack of mobility in 67,4 % and nail thickness in a 20% stand out among these difficulties.
