Abstract

[Abstract] The article focuses on Galician emigration to Brazil between 1871 and 1936 and examines how this phenomenon helped to weave the fabric of the history of education in both Worlds. The article is divided into five parts. The first examines the period of time covered by the study. The second part points to the dual invisibility of Galician emigration to Brazil. In the third part, the text attempts to give an idea of the magnitude of the Galician migratory phenomenon. The fourth part deals with the similarities between the migrations to Brazil from Galicia and from Northern Portugal. The last past discusses relationship betwe- en emigration and literacy. In conclusion, the article criticizes the lack of analyses on this subject in the field of the history of education.
