Abstract
[Abstract] The environmental perceptions of residents living along the banks of the Taquari river were investigated in this work, how environmental issues are seen and managed by the local people, to understand the value that riparian people are giving to the water resources, and whether or not there is interest in its conservation. Field surveys were conducted with quantitative and qualitative exploratory methods. Research tool questionnarie was used to collect the data. The river in the town is an important resource for the life of local biological communities, and unfortunately there is a huge degradation in its margins, showing a significant deterioration along the course of the river. The community is concerned about the current situation of the natural resources and the future of next generations. Some local people continue the traditions of caring for natural resources and preserve the margins of the river. Most people don't make the practice of conservation of the environment because of lack of knowledge related to environmental issues. It is hoped that the contact with the reality contributes to the perception of new values on the relationship human/environment.
