Abstract
[Abstract] The lending of foodstuffs and, above all, of seeds constituted one of the first type of lendings in history. In the following lines a series of legal and, to a lesser extent, lite- rary texts are presented, which inform us about the aforementioned lendings. These texts belong both to the Roman and the Visigothic time. Finally, we refer to certain documents of application of the law. These documents belong to several Christian king- doms of the High Middle Ages and they demonstrate, amongst other things, the exis- tence of lendings in kind involving both solid and liquid goods.
