Abstract

[Abstract] The management of historic buildings is a challenging task due to the peculiarities and architec-tural characteristics of each construction element, the materials used, and the integrated assets, such as sculptures and works of high cultural value, which are part of the structure. Technologiessuch as Building Information Modeling (BIM) integrated with Geographic Information Systems (GIS)enhance the management of architectural heritage information by enabling the reuse, manage-ment, sharing, and visualization of semantic and geometric data. In other words, different data andinformation about the historic asset are integrated into a unified platform, facilitating the con-servation and preservation of the built architectural heritage. This qualitative and exploratory casestudy focuses on advancing HBIM and GIS, addressing interoperability gaps and simplifying accessto architectural heritage data for stakeholders. Approaches using both open-source and commer-cial solutions are analyzed to support heritage data management. The study emphasizes thecreation of a web-accessible geodatabase, utilizing IFC data enriched with metadata and attributetables. The findings highlight the feasibility of WebGIS for heritage management, showcasing boththe potential and limitations of open-source and proprietary software. This approach allows forimproved management and preservation of architectural heritage by providing an accessibledatabase.
