Abstract
[Resumen] El gasto de los visitantes en un destino turístico está influenciado por un amplio rango de variables sociodemográficas, económicas, sicológicas, así como por factores relacionados con el viaje y el destino. El objetivo de este
artículo es estudiar el comportamiento del gasto de los visitantes en la ciudad de Santiago de Compostela. Para el estudio se realizaron encuestas a 400 visitantes seleccionados aleatoriamente en el centro histórico de la ciudad. Para la determinación de los factores condicionantes del gasto se emplearon las pruebas no paramétricas Kruskal-Wallis y la U de Mann-Whitney. Los resultados indican que la procedencia, la organización del viaje, el motivo de la visita, la pernoctación, el tipo de alojamiento y las actividades que se realizan son elementos que influyen en el gasto que hacen los visitantes en el destino.
[Abstract] The spending of visitors in a tourist destination is influenced by a wide range of sociodemographic, economic, and psychological variables, as well as factors related to travel and destination. The objective of this article is to study the behavior of visitor’s spending in the city of Santiago de Compostela. For the study, questionnaires were conducted on 400 randomly selected visitors in the historic center of the city. The non-parametric tests Kruskal-Wallis and the Mann-Whitney U were used to determine the conditioning factors of the spending. The results indicate that the origin, the organization of the trip, the reason for the visit, the overnighting, the type of accommodation and the activities carried out are elements that influence the spending of visitors at the destination.
