Literatura galega en lingua inglesa? Consideracións arredor da exofonía, do canon e da novela The Outcast Child de Jacobo Priegue

Abstract

[Resumo] Este artigo analiza The Outcast Child de Jacobo Priegue, unha novela escrita en lingua inglesa por un autor galego emigrante de nova xeración no Reino Unido. Trátase dun caso único de exofonía que se tería que considerar dentro dos estudos galegos onde a transterritorialización das personaxes engade interese a un texto producido en lingua estranxeira por un membro da nova diáspora galega. A pesar de tratarse dunha novela negra con trazos psicolóxicos, o texto pon de manifesto a interesante dicotomía existente entre o país de orixe e o país de acollida tanto da protagonista como do autor á hora de tratar a temática do trauma latente. The Outcast Child, aínda sendo un caso único, servirá para sinalar algunhas consideracións arredor da exofonía, do canon e do xeito no que a nova diáspora galega está a contribuír con textos escritos en lingua estranxeira aos estudos galegos.

[Abstract] This article analyses Jacobo Priegue’s The Outcast Child, a novel written in English by a first-generation Galician migrant author in the United Kingdom. This is a unique case of exophonic writing that should be considered within Galician Studies and in which the transterritorialisation of the characters adds interest to a text produced in a foreign language by a member of the new Galician diaspora. The novel is a crime fiction which exemplifies the interesting existing dichotomy between the host country and the home country of both the protagonist and the author when dealing with latent traumas. The Outcast Child, although it is a unique case, will be utilised to point out some thoughts on exophony, literary systems, and the way in which the new Galician diaspora is contributing to the corpus of Galician literature with texts written in a foreign language.
