Abstract
[Abstract] The perspective of self-regulated learning could be the field that offers a broader and more dynamic approach to the comprehension of learning processes. This perspective assumes the basic principle that learners are agents who choose and make decisions about their behavior. They are the true architects and promoters of their learning. In addition to being capable of managing their own motivational and cognitive resources with the aim of achieving successful learning, self-regulated learners should have the necessary competencies to apply these resources within a plan of action that matches the demands of the specific learning situation. As motivation plays a crucial role in learning and constitutes an essential area in all the approaches to self-regulated learning, in this article, an analysis is performed of the motivational components on which self-regulated learning is based, from various proposals derived from research with students of higher education.
