dc.description.abstract[Abstract] Mizoram, a state located in the north-eastern part of India comprises fragile ecosystem rich in biodiversity and indigenous culture, favourable climatic conditions for tourist and hospitable community with unpolluted environment is appropriate for ecotourism and nature-based tourism development. The State Government of Mizoram declared its industrial policy in March 1993, wherein tourism was also declared as an industry. The aim was to promote tourism through its ample natural beauty, landscapes and vibrant culture. It has been observed that, even after three decades, the state remains at bottom in terms of both domestic and foreign tourist arrivals. This study explores the use of bamboo resources, which is ecofriendly, sustainable and locally available for constructing alternative bamboo tourist hut to meet the accommodation gap particularly in the remote locations, rural destinations and ecotourism sites which is considered as among primary challenges for ecotourism development and community empowerment in the state. In order to promote ‘bamboo hut’ an alternative accommodation among the village community in the state, a model bamboo hut was built in Ailawng village, Mamit district in Mizoram. The aim is also to aware the community as it is also a cost-effective approach and can create opportunity for economic and social upliftment. The study highlights the community's positive attitude towards tourism development and the significant role of bamboo in their daily lives and cultural heritage. Findings suggest that bamboo-based tourism infrastructure can enhance socioeconomic development and conservation efforts in the region.es_ES
